Reliance Retail to draw from rural talent

Reliance Retail, the retail arm of Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has decided to interpose its way into the interiors of the country and rope in rural talent to slow down the erosion of front end staff in its retail business.
Much of this rural talent will be deployed to function as the front end staff in 1000+ retail formats of Reliance Retail; including Reliance Fresh, Reliance Mart and many more.
Reliance Retail plans to hire around 30-35 per cent new staff employees for its value formats from non-urban areas particularly rural markets by leveraging the brand pull that the Reliance name commands in these markets. As many as 8,000 people from rural areas and townships are presumed to benefit from this brazen move of Reliance.
Studies have shown that the average duration of a front end employee in the retail business in India is under a year. Most people who have been laid-off due to the stealthy encroachment of economic slowdown are now apprehensive of joining larger urban establishments. In order to compensate for the lack of adequate staff, a company like Reliance Retail has chosen for itself a rather smart move of selecting from the vast expanse of employment hungry individuals from tier II and tier III quarters.
Reliance has notified that in order to help these individuals adjust to life in a big city, they will provide them with a composite one-month training which, apart from shop floor practices, integrates modules on how to live in a big city, appropriate etiquettes and standards of accepted behavior. This will help rural transits adapt to the new found habitat much more smoothly.
Reliance has tied up with a few training providers including a unit of IL&FS to train rural staff for a period of 6 months in retail operations and mannerism.
Not only will such a move aid rural populace find a better life and ensure a steady flow of income, but being a part of a gradually modernizing Indian economy will invariably work in favor of those people who form the backbone such an economy.
