RIL Ropes In Samsung For Its 4G Launch

Reliance Industries Limitedcollaborates with Samsung , the leading mobile device manufacturer for its most awaited 4G project. With both the premium players teaming up, this could serve to be a game changer in the industry and could change the face of telecommunication services. Sources claim that the deal would involve procurement of equipments for RAN (Radio Access Network), Core and Access Layer.

Apart from offering its patent technology, Samsung would cater to offering entry level Smartphones at $ 100 availing RIL’s high speed 4G internet and voice services, based on the deal. Taking into considering the fact that a 3G enabled Samsung phone would fall in the same price range and RIL’s low cost data plan offering, this could enable both the conglomerates to eye growth leap in the coming years. Apart from that, they will also embark on offering high-end Smartphones via down payments and easy EMIs (Equated Monthly Installment) at 0% interest, to push sales and intensify their stratagem.

MukeshAmbani led Reliance JioInfocommis the sole company in the country to own PAN India 4G permits and has been concocting varied plans and strategies to pave the way for an excellent service. Sources close to development have divulged that the company may engage in a soft launch of the services by mid-2013 with the formal launch being postponed later this year. There are high odds of the company launching their services on December 28, the birth anniversary of Late DhirubhaiAmbani, MukeshAmbani’s father. However, both the companies have not revealed any information regarding the launch date.

Sources also mention that Samsung would not like to play a second fiddle and intends to play a pivotal role in the deal, resulting in both the companies engaging in a joint venture, in the near future. Lately, Reliance has inked a number of joint ventures with top-notch brands to strengthen the competition in the market.

This deal with Reliance could enable Samsung move up the growth ladder and rub shoulders with Apple, the tech giant in the US. While the company as a mobile brand has gained ground in India, it is yet to beat Apple and make its mark in the US.Many European companies including Ericsson, ZTE Corp, Nokia Siemens Network, etc., keen on bagging the deal are known to be disappointedas Samsung bagged the coveted deal.

With the government permitting companies with 4G license holders to offer voice services, RIL will be able to offer voice coupled data services and will have a competitive edge over other counterparts.
