Reliance Brands Partners with Swiss Luxury Brand Bally

Reliance Brands, the subsidiary of Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), recently collaborated with Swiss luxury brand, Bally on a joint venture. This agreement will enable marketing as well as distribution rights for Bally in India. The two companies are also keen on launching a store at New Delhi in 2017. Additionally, they plan on expanding the reach in future across cities like Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai.

Joint venture

The store, which is slated to open in New Delhi, is considered to be a part of Bally’s international expansion project. The brand has already made its presence felt by introducing two flagship stores in Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles and Ginza, Tokyo in 2016. A statement that was released said that the upcoming year will witness the opening of two more stores in China World Mall, Beijing and Madison Avenue, New York.

The CEO of Bally, Frederic de Narp expressed his elation at the joint venture. He stated that along with Reliance Brands, Bally is creating a roadmap to facilitate its growth in major Indian cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Chennai. He added that consumers in India are discerning while selecting luxury products and appreciate the craftsmanship as well as quality that go into manufacturing the same. Mumbai Indians apparel by Diesel

Reliance-owned IPL team, Mumbai Indians, has signed a deal with Diesel, an Italian fashion brand. This will entail creating a line of limited apparel for fans of Mumbai Indians. Renzo Rosso, Diesel’s Founder launched an exclusive range of jackets, denims, t-shirts, sweatshirts, as well as accessories like caps and suspenders in Mumbai. The owner of Mumbai Indians team, Nita Ambani and the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma were also present at the launch. The apparel line by Diesel will have an indigo and gold colored Mumbai Indians branding on it. As per this initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends to digitize India and empower the citizens of the country. Telecom companies like Reliance Jio have joined hands with the Indian Government to support this movement. Mukesh Ambani led Jio, ever since its launch took the responsibility of providing affordable 4G services to customers. The first step in this direction was introducing the Jio Welcome Offer. This offer managed to add to the brand’s customer base by providing users with unlimited free data services and a suite of applications for three months. Additionally, Jio marked the revolution in the telecom sector by completely eliminating the costs associated with voice calls in the country. After the validity of the Jio Welcome Offer ends,  the company will be extending the same services under the Jio Happy New Year Offer until the end of March 2017.

Users who do not have 4G-enabled devices can also use this app seamlessly. To avail of this facility, a user’s 3G or 2G smart phone must have a connection to the Web through Jio hotspot or a JioFi device. A user will then be easily able to engage in high definition (HD) video and voice calling facilities. Additionally, users with non-VoLTE 4G devices can also try this app, simply through a Jio SIM card. The Jio4GVoice app has received a rating of 4 stars and has recorded around 10 to 50 million downloads since its launch.  Moreover, JioTV and JioCinema apps rank at fourth and tenth positions on Google Play respectively.

A spokesperson of Jio stated the positive response that Jio apps have been gaining, which according to him is clearly evident in the download rate of the apps. He added that the company is also working towards introducing many such digital solutions to Indian customers. Merchants Can Receive Payments through the JioMoney Merchant App

The app has received an overwhelming response, considering its extensive customer base.  Very recently, the brand also launched the JioMoney Merchant app. This application will make it possible for retailers associated with Jio to receive payments made by customers on the JioMoney app. It also serves the function of allowing merchants to complete supplier transactions. The app will digitize all transactions, be it at ticket counters or even shops. The JioMoney and the JioMoney Merchant app both operate when linked to a bank account, debit card, or credit card. Money can also be sent from either of these accounts to a user’s bank account.

Efforts to digitize India

Jio aims to tie-up with more than 10 million merchants across different businesses. It intends to tap into 4 lakh villages and 17,000 towns across India through these applications. Additionally, Jio is also on its way to installing micro-ATMs that function on an Aadhar card-based system to facilitate digital transactions across different places.

Jio Payments Bank Limited

But, Reliance Jio does not intend to stop at digital wallet apps only. The company, together with leading banking company State Bank of India will be launching Jio Payments Bank Limited. Reports by IE confirmed that the banking venture received approval in September, 2015 from the Reserve Bank of India. The venture is expected to develop to a large extent owing to Jio’s extensive user base as well as SBI’s large-scale reach in the country. Jio Payments Bank has seven members as part of its Board of Directors. This team also includes Manju Agarwal, H Srikrishnan, Rajendra Kumar Saraf, Manisha Girotra, and Sethurathnam Ravi, among others. All these members have an extensive knowledge of the banking sector and have been affiliated with some of the most renowned companies in the country.

Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Mukesh Ambani also announced that RIL’s telecom arm will be launching the Jio Happy New Year Offer. This offer is slated to be an extension of the previous welcome offer and will be active till the end of March 2017. Current as well as new Jio users will be able to avail of free data, calling, and application services till this period.
