Reliance Jio’s Significant Role in India’s 4G Revolution

According to a recent analysis by the International Data Corporation (IDC), India will play a crucial role in the industry of 4G services. According to current estimates, Jio will sign up approximately 1000 subscribers. The International Data Corporation believes that Jio has made a revolutionary move by distributing 4G SIM cards for free and launching a line-up of economical 4G-LTE smart phones in the market.

With regard to the same, Associate Research Director at a department of IDC, Melissa Chau spoke about Jio’s phenomenal performance and how it has impacted the market with its high-quality yet low-cost services, which include both 4G facilities as well as LYF smart phones.

Rapid customer growth

Reliance Jio officially launched on the 5th of September, 2016. To meet the extensive demand for its SIM cards, the company introduced the seamless e-KYC procedure that only requires users to furnish their Aadhar card to get access to a Jio SIM. This process ensured faster SIM activation around 3,100 towns and cities in India. The Jio Welcome Offer is complimentary with any Jio SIM card and allows users to experience free messaging, voice or video calls, data, and a range of applications till the end of 2016. This marketing strategy by Jio has left many incumbent operators unsettled, because of which many have had to cut down prices of tariff plans to retain their customers. However, Reliance Jio is maintaining a steady inflow of customers and very recently the telecom operator went beyond the set expectations by acquiring more than 50 million users on its network.

JioChat promotional offer

Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio has devised yet another way to expand its customer base for one of its applications, JioChat. The strategy involves offering free movie tickets and JioFi 4G hotspot devices to users who successfully invite their acquaintances to try out JioChat. This was done by sending across notifications to customers regarding the same. The validity of this promotional offer is from the 28th of November to the 4th of December, 2016. As per the offer, users who manage to invite 5 friends are liable to receive movie tickets for two, while those who come under the top 5 category for inviting the most number of people will stand a chance to win JioFi 4G personal hotspot devices. The JioChat app being promoted has features like messaging, voice and video calling, and group calling facilities.

With respect to Jio’s growing customer base, several reports have suggested that the carrier is now leading in terms of its user base. It managed to achieve this in only three months post its commercial launch. In retrospect, rival players took more than 10 years to build the same customer base built by Jio in only a few months, which is commendable. To accommodate more customers on its network, Reliance Jio is expected to further develop its infrastructure.
